What is Barley Tea?
Barley tea (麦茶) is a roasted-grain-based infusion made from barley which is a staple across Korea, China, and Japan. It has a toasty flavor, with slight bitter undertones. In Japan, it is usually served cold and is a popular summertime refreshment.
Nabeshima Meicha was founded by Jinbei Nabeshima who left his village Nyukawa to learn about business in the city of Matsumoto, Nagano Prefecture. His son, Jinzaburo, inherited the business and founded Nabeshima Jinzaburo Shoten to sell green tea in Takayama City, Gifu Prefecture.
Today, the company is part of a larger group, Nabeshima Shoten Co., Ltd., that engages in fireworks production, construction, and other businesses.
